Last week I shared with you my story of a 7 Day Water Fast I undertook during Holy Week. The results were amazing and I am a huge fan of fasting now! All in, my net weight loss during the 7 days was 11 pounds and there was a definite shift in my relationship with God. So what next I thought to myself? After all, I was very happy with the results and I didn’t want to backslide. Well, I did a little research and I have learned some pretty amazing benefits of fasting. After researching I decided to make fasting a foundational part of my life. Here are the three main fasting take-aways I’ll share with you in this blog:

Over the last several months it seems a plethora of research touting the benefits of fasting have come across my desk. Intermittent Fasting, 1, 3, 5 or 7 day fasting, and studies showing the benefits of longer fasting have captured my attention. Often I have thought to myself - “I should engage in a healthy fast at some point.” Little did I know that my future 7 Day Water fast would lead to a 13 pound weight loss and a heightened spiritual experience!
Well, that some point recently presented itself. It was Lent 2019 and I was gathering research for the Concluding Project for my M.S. in Theology at Saint Meinrad School of Theology. I was in the middle of a deep dive into our Early Church Fathers, Mothers, and Mystics as I was seeking to better understand their message of God’s love and forgiveness. A repeating pattern arose in these lovers of God - many used fasting as a means to become closer to God. So it was time for me, I decided to follow a 7 Day Fast during Holy Week – ending on Good Friday. Fasting would be a spiritual tool I could use to more fully unite my heart with the heart of God. On Holy Saturday I would introduce light food into my system and then on Easter I would enjoy a beautiful celebration with my family – feast and all. I was so excited!

Well, it’s here -cold and flu season. This means we’re all more likely to get exposed to viruses that can make us feel awful for a week or more, and make us susceptible to bacterial infections as well. Taking antibiotics and steroids (which are commonly prescribed for these infections) can help in the short term, but they can lead to more health issues later on. So anything you can do to help you fight off infections without the need for antibiotics or steroids, the better it will be for your long-term health. I’d like to help you accomplish that goal.
Let’s get your immune system in tip top shape. This process can take time – anywhere from a few weeks to several months . A few basic steps:
Have You Experienced These Symptoms?
The alarm has just gone off, and once again, you are not waking up refreshed. It was a long, restless night. Your pain seemed to subside just enough to grab a few winks of sleep, certainly not enough for your body to regenerate. However, you must “soldier” on, people are counting on you. The kids need to be fed, the house need to be picked up, then there is that work project that is weighing heavily on your mind. It will be another day of mental fog, body aches, and fatigue.
Remembering a time when you felt well you reflect a bit on that one incident – you haven’t been well ever since. Or maybe you have already have received the diagnoses of one, or more, autoimmune diseases. Either way, a sense of hopelessness enters in. Maybe you have received diagnostic testing that didn’t offer significant answers. And perhaps, you have tried over the counter and prescriptive medications, and yet, your pain and discomfort persists. Improvement has been minimal or non-existent. Sadly, chronic illness has become commonplace for all too many individuals today.
In a nut shell, you are sick and tired of being sick and tired!
